Happy New Year, Music Monday readers! Today, we’re highlighting the song that placed at the top of many ‘best of 2011’ music lists – “Midnight City” by French electronic band M83. Released as the first single off of the band’s sixth album, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, the song starts off with a hypnotic synth beat, which carries and builds throughout, meeting with other musical sound surprises including a 1980s-esque saxophone interlude. Their electronic, dream-world sound gives them an intriguing uniqueness, and with the mini revival of the electro-synch pop genre on the rise, it is likely that we’ll be hearing more music from them again soon.
