Spotlight On: Brooklyn’s Nightwood
June 17, 2011CassaBlog is always on the hunt for design companies and brands that help to pioneer the eco-revolution, and New York furniture store Nightwood is a prime example. The store, which just had its opening in Williamsburg this past Saturday (and was previously operating out of a pop-up in downtown BK), features “reincarnated” furniture (tables, chairs, desks, couches and more), textiles, and even some home items like acrylic paintings. Business and life partners Myriah Scruggs and Nadia Yaron use rescued wood and old furniture bases to create new, mostly one of a kind pieces with an earthy, raw vibe. Their textiles feature a lot of hand-detailing, such as this hand dye-painted linen and canvas “primitive pillow” (above). Many of their pieces, like this “diplomat dresser” (right), combine a variety of wood types to produce a layered and edgy, yet still natural, feel. This dresser was made with maple, poplar, oak, spruce, and pine. Visit their site, or if you’re in New York head over to Brooklyn to check out their brand new shop on Grand Street.
